Film Synopsis:

‘Asha de Vos on Studying Blue Whales’ (2019) is the first film from the Animate Her series. In this film, marine biologist and ocean educator Dr. Asha de Vos talks about the giant blue whale skeleton that inspired her as a child, and the challenges of being a South Asian woman in science.

Filmmaker’s Bio:

Irushi Tennekoon is an illustrator and experimental animator based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She is also an educator with a background in English studies and teaches English language to undergraduates at the University of Colombo. Currently, she is working with a talented team to create an animated series titled Animate Her. This project is supported by the British Council’s Creating Heroines programme and features a group of exceptional women living and working in Sri Lanka.
